[ARCHIVED] Press Release Update - South Mechanic Street Closure 5.30.23 - 5.31.23

Press Release

The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Triton Construction, would like to notify the public that South Mechanic Street will be closed to thru traffic between Baltimore Street and Pershing Street between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM on Tuesday, May 30th and Wednesday, May 31st.

Signage will be in place to detour passenger vehicles around the road closure. Trucks will be detoured to Queen City Drive to avoid the closure. Flaggers will also be in place at the Baltimore Street Intersection to allow one lane of traffic to remain open for vehicles travelling between N. Mechanic Street and Baltimore Street.

As part of this utility work, a localized water outage will take place on both days. Any customers affected by the outage will be notified by the Engineering Department.

Traffic is expected to be restored on both days by 6:00 PM.

Additional information will be released in the event the closure duration needs to be extended.

Update - South Mechanic Street will remain closed until 6pm on Wednesday, 5/31/2023, to allow the contractor to complete the water main work in the intersection at Baltimore Street. The detour will remain in place through the evening and traffic barrels/cones will be staged to allow vehicles to flow between Baltimore Street and North Mechanic Street. Water service is expected to be restored by noon Wednesday, 5/31/2023. Thanks.

Thank you for your cooperation during this time. Please use caution in the area and follow all traffic control devices that will be in place. If there are any questions, please contact the City of Cumberland Engineering Department, 301-759-6600.
