[ARCHIVED] Rock Cioni Appointed to City Council

The Mayor and City Council of Cumberland voted during their January 19, 2016 public meeting to appoint Richard J. “Rock” Cioni, Jr. to the City Council seat vacated January 1, 2016 by David F. Kauffman. Mr. Cioni was appointed from among a candidate pool of five applicants.

According to Mayor Brian Grim, the Mayor and Council undertook a vigorous interview process for the vacancy. The applicants were provided the opportunity to offer comments during a public meeting and the Mayor and Council had the opportunity to spend time with each of the candidates individually to hear their views on how to move the city forward. Grim stated, “The city would be well-served by any of these individuals and Council is appreciative that they each stepped forward to offer their service to the citizens of Cumberland.”

Upon unanimous vote during the public meeting, Mr. Cioni was nominated and duly appointed to fill the remaining 3-year term vacated by Kauffman. A graduate of Allegany High School and veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Cioni earned a Bachelor’s Degree from West Virginia University and a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Frostburg State University. Cioni presently works as a clinical consultant at the Jackson Unit.

The Mayor and City Council invite the public to attend the swearing-in ceremonies for Mr. Cioni on February 2, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in the City Hall Rotunda. Cioni’s term will be effective February 2, 2016 through January 7, 2019.
