[ARCHIVED] City of Cumberland Halloween Festivities Are Planned

City of Cumberland Halloween Festivities Are Planned

The Parks and Recreation Department and the Downtown Development Commission (DDC) will be jointly hosting some Halloween fun.  A drive-up Trick or Treat event will be held at Constitution Park on Thursday, October 28th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Participating cars should enter Constitution Park from Williams Street onto Reservoir Avenue.   Take a right onto Park View Avenue to proceed through the “Drive-up Trick or Treat” area, which will include four different treat stops where each child in the car will receive treats from the Mayor, City Council members, City Staff and volunteers.  Cars will exit the area past the pool, continuing on Fort Avenue to Willowbrook Road.   Participants should remain in their cars at all times.  City Officials and Staff will adhere to all Safety and Health precautions including wearing masks and gloves to distribute treats.

Leading up to the Trick or Treat event, the City and DDC are inviting entries for several virtual contests:

  • Virtual Costume Contest – enter a photo of your child(ren) up to age 12.   Judges will award prizes for the most creative, best superhero, best animal, best Halloween theme, best character, best overall costume, and a new category this year will be “Best Family Costume”!
  • Virtual Pumpkin Decorating Contest – carve your most creative pumpkin and send in a photo to be entered into the contest.  Our panel of judges will award prizes for the most creative pumpkin, the best Halloween theme pumpkin and the best overall pumpkin.
  • Virtual House Decorating Contest – show us what you and your family can do, whether you deck your house out with Fall decorations or have the scariest group of animated ghosts and goblins.  Send in a photo or video of your decorated home exterior to be eligible to win prizes for having the scariest decorations, the most creative decorations or the best Fall decorations.

All contests will accept entries sent to:  halloween@cumberlandmd.gov.  They must be received by midnight on Monday, October 25th to be eligible for judging.  Winners will be announced on Friday, October 29th and prizes can be picked up at City Hall the following week.
