New Central Business District Commercial Accessibility Improvement Grant Program Applications Available
A second round of applications for the new Central Business District Commercial Accessibility Improvement Grant Program are now available. Applications can be obtained by request or in person in the Department of Community Development in the lower level of City Hall during regular business hours between 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.

This program is funded through the State of Maryland’s Community Legacy Program and is designed to assist commercial building owners to improve access into and within their buildings. Funds will be awarded through a competitive process. The maximum grant funding to be awarded for any one property will be $10,000. It is possible that not everyone who applies will be awarded funds.
Community Legacy, a part of the Sustainable Communities Program, is an on-going program that provided nearly $6 million in funding for projects throughout the state of Maryland in 2018-2019 for financial assistance to help existing communities implement comprehensive revitalization plans by providing funding to communities to target projects that will assist with reversing disinvestment trends, reducing sprawl, and enhancing community life for businesses and residents. Since 2001, the City of Cumberland has been awarded over $4.5 million dollars from the Community Legacy Program.
Applications for the Central Business District Commercial Accessibility Improvement Grant Program must be submitted to the City of Cumberland’s Department of Community Development no later than 3;30pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2020
