[ARCHIVED] Candidates Sought for Cumberland Historic Preservation Commission

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council is looking for candidates to fill vacancies on the Historic Preservation Commission for the professionally-qualified positions.  Interested persons must have a resume that meets the professional qualifications according to federal standard, 36 CFR 61, as a requirement for appointment.  Qualifying standards include a graduate degree from the disciplines of architecture, history, architectural history, planning, archeology, or other related disciplines, such as urban planning, American Studies, American Civilization, Cultural Geography, or Cultural Anthropology or a combination of undergraduate degree and experience as recognized by the federal standards.

The Historic Preservation Commission meets the second Wednesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.  The meetings are open to all members of the public, although persons wishing to have their project reviewed must apply ahead of time to the Commission staff, located in City Hall, in order to be scheduled in advance for the agenda.  The Historic Preservation Commission acts to review Certificate of Appropriateness Applications for work within the Canal Place Preservation District, a zoned historic district.  The Commission and its staff also serve to provide technical guidance to property owners with questions regarding design and maintenance issues, as well as direction in seeking financial assistance for rehabilitation projects within designated areas.

Resumes should be submitted to the attention of the Mayor and City Council by Wednesday, May 29, 2019 either through email to margie.woodring@cumberlandmd.gov or by mail to 57 N. Liberty Street, Cumberland, MD 21502.  Questions may be directed to the City Clerk's Office at 301-759-6447.
