The Cumberland Mayor and City Council announced during their November 20, 2018 public meeting that letters will be accepted from citizens of the city who are interested in being appointed to the vacant council seat left by the resignation of Councilman David Caporale, who will be sworn in as an Allegany County Commissioner in December. Letters will be accepted through Friday, December 7, 2018, and should be directed to the City Clerk's Office at 57 N. Liberty Street, Cumberland, MD 21502 or by email to margie.woodring@cumberlandmd.gov. The Mayor and Council will initiate an interview process based on the interest received, and plan to vote on an appointment to the seat in time to allow the appointed council person to be sworn into office along with the other newly-elected council members on January 7, 2019. Questions regarding this matter may be directed to the City Clerk's office at 301-759-6447.
