[ARCHIVED] City Star Award presented to Gayle Griffith

Cathy Griffith Being Awarded a City Star

A City Star Award was presented to Gayle Griffith by the Cumberland Mayor and City Council during their September 2, 2014 public meeting.

Griffith was recognized for her work as the volunteer coordinator for the Allegany County Animal Shelter and as the long-time spearhead of Heritage Days, Cumberland’s official summer festival. In addition to her time spent volunteering at the shelter, Griffith and her husband, Lee Schwartz, operate an auxiliary cat/kitten adoption center for the shelter out of the Book Center, their co-owned business in downtown Cumberland. Nearly 250 cats and kittens have been adopted from their location.

Griffith was nominated by Becky McClarran, who recognized Griffith for constantly giving back to the community. “She is most definitely a Cumberland Star!” stated McClarran.

The City Star Award program was designed to recognize the unsung heroes in the community who have made a positive impact, but whose efforts may have gone unnoticed or unrecognized. Nominations for the City Star Award may be submitted in writing to the Cumberland Mayor’s Office, 57 N. Liberty Street, Cumberland, MD 21502 or by email or online.
