In October of 2012, the City of Cumberland announced its participation in the State of Maryland’s, Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention, Safe Streets initiative. In 2017, the Governor's Office transitioned from the Safe Street's initiative to the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network.
The MCIN initiative is designed to focus on criminal networks across Maryland by coordinating at the local level the local, state and federal law enforcement efforts combating gangs, drug, firearm, and human trafficking.
