Cumberland, a picturesque community of nearly 21,000 residents, is set in the beautiful mountains of Western Maryland and situated along the banks of the Potomac River at the western most terminus of the C&O Canal. Located an equal distance from Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Washington D.C., Cumberland offers beautiful surroundings with a relaxed pace of life and the ability to reach the bustle of three major metropolitan areas within a 2-3 hour drive.
Our city residents enjoy the benefit of extensive municipal services, including award-winning water supply and waste water facilities, comprehensive public works and planning departments, full-time paid fire and ambulance services provided by a professionally-trained fire department, and outstanding public safety services provided by a full-time, CALEA-certified police department.
Please take time to explore our website for more information on the services Cumberland has to offer. Better yet, come visit our beautiful city and enjoy a train ride on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, take a walk through our Historic District, or browse the Allegany Museum in downtown Cumberland. You might just discover for yourself why our residents wouldn't live anywhere else.
