Overview

The Parks and Recreation Board is a 5-7 member appointed Board. Members may be chosen from the community at large, with one member serving as a representative of the YMCA.  A high school student recommended by the Allegany County Board of Education may also serve on the Board as a non-voting member.  Members serve 3 year terms.

The mission of the Parks and Recreation Board is to foster planning for recreational activities in the city and to continuously review municipal, county, state, and federal cooperation in the field of recreation for the purpose of seeking a greater degree of coordination in the development of recreational activities. Furthermore, the Parks and Recreation Board serves in an advisory capacity to the Mayor and City Council on policy issues involving the city's parks and park-related programs.
